SOLO PERFORMER
Violinist and violist Ivan Dolgunov is making a name for himself not only for his virtuosity but also for his adaptations and arrangements of music originally written for other instruments.
Dolgunov completed postgraduate studies at the St. Petersburg Conservatory in 2004, and became a member of the St. Petersburg Camerata, the State Orchestra of the renowned Hermitage Museum. He went on to work with the Mariinsky Theatre Orchestra and other large ensembles in the city. Tours followed as a soloist and orchestral player in many European countries, as well as in Korea, Japan and the U.S.
Since 2022, he has been based in Toronto, Canada, where he appears in concerts at the Royal Conservatory, focusing on solo performances and rarely performed early chamber music works.
He names pianist Glenn Gould, probably Canada’s most celebrated classical musician and a Royal Conservatory graduate, as the greatest influence on his own style and approach to music.

CHAMBER PERFORMER
Ivan Dolgunov has made a specialty of creating and performing stylish and inventive arrangements of music originally scored for other instruments. The result is a fresh, new sound to well-known masterworks.
His versatile method of working with sound allows him to be in harmony with any instrument.
MUSIC TEACHER
As a teacher, Ivan Dolgunov believes that every person has immense creative potential. As he says:
“The most important thing to me in teaching music is to show my students how to stop being a student, and to form their own personal musical vision, start enjoying creativity and become a performer.
To achieve this goal, I become a colleague and creative partner with my student. Doing so lets me raise the student’s self-esteem, and in short order brings him or her to my own level in technical skills and musical understanding.”
